Calculating Bond Yield With a Financial Calculator?

May 5, 2009

Hello all and thanks in advance for any help. I am using a HP10BII financial calculator. I know how to calculate bond prices when given par, maturity time, coupon rate, and YTM.

However, I'm unsure of the key strokes required to determine YTM when given par, time to maturity, coupon rate, and payment. It seems like I'm missing a variable. Any direction would be greatly appreciated!

u use the coupon rate to obtain payment.
so

pmt = x
pv = y
fv = z
n = n

cpt i/y

u'll get your YTM
